Matalaz

Matalaz is Oxer Bastegieta's tribute to the traditional village reds of Rioja Alavesa. A blend of 70% Tempranillo with Mazuelo, Viura and Graciano, it ferments in large vats with whole clusters before spending around seven months in barrel. The style is pure and immediate: ripe black fruit, soft tannins and a floral lift that speaks of the high-altitude terroir. Oxer named it after a folk hero, a rebel priest whose story is as compelling as the wine. An everyday Basque wine Malta lovers will reach for again and again.
