Matalaz by Oxer Wines

" A tribute to the wines of yesteryear, but in my own way ." This is how Oxer Bastegieta defines this Young tempranillo , whose fruit and marked floral character are reminiscent of the traditional reds from the villages of Rioja Alavesa . Interestingly, its name and striking label make reference to Matalaz, a priest who led an unsuccessful popular uprising against the nobility and the French army and in favor of the interests of the peasants. He was beheaded and his head was hung at the entrance to the city to teach the people a lesson.

Matalaz - 70% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo, 10% Viura and 10% Graciano, fermented in 6,500L vats with whole clusters and destemmed for 2-3 weeks. After pressing, the wine is returned to the same vat, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and aging for approximately 7 months.
