Monte Branco Castelão

An elegant single-varietal red from Adega Monte Branco in Estremoz, Alentejo. 100% Castelão grown on limestone soils, hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel with cold pre-fermentation maceration. The wine ages for 12 months in old 300-litre French oak barrels, coaxing out the variety's signature character without imposing heavy wood. Rated 17.5 points by Vinho Grandes Escolhas: delicate red fruit, a sensation of sweetness, juicy and enveloping tannins with a distinctive raspberry finish. Just 1,100 bottles produced.
