The Marche is one of Italy's least-known great wine regions: a long, narrow strip of central Italy where the Apennines descend eastward to the Adriatic, creating a landscape of river valleys, rolling hillsides, and a coastal climate that gives the wines a freshness and food-friendliness that is hard to find elsewhere in Italy.

Azienda Agraria Guerrieri is a family-run estate near Terre Roveresche in the northern Marche, managing 48 hectares of vineyards alongside olive groves, pasta production, and honey. The estate's approach is rooted in sustainable viticulture, using plant-based fertilisers and non-chemical weeding to maintain the health of their soils and the surrounding land.

The estate's signature white is the Bianchello del Metauro DOC. Bianchello, also known locally as Biancame, is a grape variety native to this part of the Marche, grown in the valley of the Metauro river. At its best it produces wines of real charm: straw yellow, vibrant with fresh acidity, and characterised by aromas of white peach, pear blossom, and a clean citrus finish. It is a wine built for the table, perfect alongside the Adriatic seafood that is the cuisine of this part of Italy.

The Guerriero Nero, the estate's everyday Sangiovese from the Colli Pesaresi DOC, is a bright, cherry-rich red with a perfumed bouquet of fresh herbs and red berries. It is the kind of Italian red that performs effortlessly across a wide range of food.

At the top of the range sits the Galileo: a Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese Riserva DOC produced only in the best vintages, from carefully selected grapes harvested in the third decade of September. After a long maceration of 15 to 20 days, the wine is aged 12 months in large oak barrels and then a further 12 months in bottle before release. The result is a deep, garnet-toned red with aromas of marasca cherry, leather, dried herbs, and a spiced, mineral finish. It is the Guerrieri wine that rewards patience most, and the one most likely to earn the attention of serious wine drinkers.
