Alto Adige sits in the Italian Alps, where the Dolomite mountains meet the Mediterranean climate and produce wines of extraordinary freshness and precision. Colterenzio, known in German as Schreckbichl, is the cooperative that turned this region into a benchmark for premium Italian white wine. Founded in 1960 by 26 winegrowers, it now unites around 300 member families farming vineyards at altitudes between 230 and 650 metres.
The Pfefferer is where most buyers begin. Made from Moscato Giallo: a local aromatic grape called Pfefferer (the peppery one) in the local dialect. It is fermented in stainless steel to preserve its character: elderflower and nutmeg on the nose, zesty and spiced on the palate, with a long aromatic finish that makes it the finest aperitif wine in the Briffa portfolio.
The Lafóa range is a different register entirely. These are single-vineyard prestige wines: the Sauvignon Blanc is one of Italy's finest, the Cabernet Sauvignon a structured and age-worthy red with dark fruit and cedar, and the Pinot Nero a delicate, silky expression of the variety rarely matched south of Burgundy. Collectors take note: the Lafóa tier is not widely available in Malta.
